Fees

Our fees are fixed in advance, where possible - and are always competitive.

Fixed Fees

Most legal advisers charge by the hour; but time-charging rewards and encourages inefficiency. We therefore prefer to work on the basis of a fixed fee where possible, and we will usually be able to give a fixed quote for a particular piece of work in advance.

Where we are not able to offer a fixed fee arrangement, we will keep you appraised of our costs at regular intervals during our engagement.

In any case, you won't have to worry about receiving unexpected bills at unexpected times.

Examples Fees

We have set out below some examples of the fixed fees we may be able to offer for particular pieces of work. These are guidelines only, and any quotes we give will be based upon our estimate of the total amount of work required for the particular job.

Providing (for an author) a detailed commentary upon an author agreement, with suggested amendments - £325.00 plus VAT.

Preparing a standard-form author agreement for a small book publisher - £750.00 plus VAT.

Preparing a suite of standard form publishing agreements for a new publishing house - £3,000.00 plus VAT.

Unfixed Fees

Although we usually try to work on the basis of fixed fees, it isn't always possible to make an informed estimate of the amount of work a job will involve. In such cases we will usually work on a time-charge basis.

Hourly Rates

Our consultants' current rate is £125.00 per hour (plus VAT).

Competitor Comparisons

You could expect to pay around twice our standard hourly rate to engage a specialist publishing law solicitor with comparable qualifications and experience.
