Libel and legal reviews
Our advisory work typically involves the preparation of detailed written reports on the legal risks associated with a particular text. Our reports will not only tell you where the risks lie, but also what we think you should do about them.
Where possible we will suggest revisions to the text rather than deletions.
In many cases the legal risks arising out of a book or article cannot be eliminated without destroying the work itself. For example, a scandalous diary wouldn't be scandalous if it didn't carry any libel risk; again, it is not uncommon for books to be published with the copyright in photographs only partially cleared. If we think a risk may be worth taking, we will say so.
Meeting your deadlines
Libel and other legal reviews are usually an unwanted (and often unexpected) intrusion upon the publishing timetable. We will make every effort to meet your deadlines.
Fixed fees, flexible service
Our fees are usually agreed with the client at the outset, rather than charged at an hourly rate.
But that doesn't mean we stop working after we send you our written report. The fee we quote will also cover any follow-up work which may be required (within reason).
If you have any questions about our services, please do not hestitate to contact us.
